My son’s Buddy Walk® team, Team Alex, is gearing up for our 11th year at the Columbus Buddy Walk® event. I am always seeking out new fundraising opportunities so that Team Alex can continue to contribute to our walk as a top fundraising team.
As football season is now upon us, we may find ourselves thinking more about the rivalries that make sports so much fun. Being deeply rooted in Buckeye Country, we will find ourselves watching “that team up north” and begin looking forward to our big game in November.
Joining two of our favorite fall activities together, our Buddy Walk® event and the OSU vs. Michigan game, is a fun way to encourage a friendly competition between Team Alex and Nick’s Crew, a team participating in the Down Syndrome Support Team Buddy Walk® event in Ann Arbor. My son, Alex, and Nick are roughly the same age, and historically our teams have raised a comparable amount of money for our respective local Down syndrome associations. We extended an invitation to Nick’s mom (Elaine Luther, who is also president of Down Syndrome Support Team) to go head to head in a friendly Buddy Walk® fundraising challenge, and Nick’s Crew has accepted our challenge.
From now until 9/21, both teams will continue fundraising, and the team with the most donations will be crowned the winner of our first annual Buckeye/Wolverine Buddy Walk® event Challenge. We’re calling this competition #AlexVsNick2014!
To donate or register to walk with either team, please visit the Team Alex page or the Nick’s Crew page – depending, of course, on whether you align yourself with Ohio or Michigan. We look forward to learning more about Nick’s Crew as we all join together to raise even more money for both teams.
Care to join in the fun? Here are some creative ways you could join the friendly #AlexVsNick2014 competition:
• Donate to your favorite team, then post to your social media channels about how you supported your favorite college football team by donating to a great cause. Be sure to use the hashtag #AlexVsNick2014 so we can see your posts!
• Post a quick video cheer for your college football team – Ohio State or Michigan – or and be sure to give a shout-out to either Team Alex or Team Nick! You can use the graphic in this blog post (just print it out and hold it up in your video). Please be sure to also use the hashtag #AlexVsNick2014 in your post!
We’d love to hear about your most creative Buddy Walk® event fundraising effort in the comments below.
